Solid Waste

The Solid Waste District is charged with developing and implementing a plan to reduce the waste stream into landfills in the district.  The original focus was to reduce the waste stream by 40% by 1998.  By the end of the 2007 fiscal year, the waste stream in the state was reduced by approximately 44%.  Even though exceeding the 40% goal, has declined to 44% after  peaking at a high of 47% in 2004.  The current focus of the Solid Waste District is to continue to implement the District's Waste Reduction Plan and carry out projects that positively impact the environment thru solid waste management, waste reduction, and recycling.

Solid Waste District has carried out numerous successful projects.  These are mostly in the areas of education, recycling, composting, household hazardous waste collections, tire recycling, electronics waste  (e-waste) collection and assistance to small recycling businesses.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The West Central Missouri Solid Waste Management District Region F, in partnership with the Lafayette County Commission,  sponsored a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off in Lexington, Missouri, Saturday April 26, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. It was held on the 4-Life Center parking lot, on the south side of town.  There was an E-waste and tire collection in all of the Lafayette County Road District sheds in the cities of Alma, Concordia, Corder, Dover, Higginsville, Lexington, Mayview, Odessa, Waverly,  and Wellington-Napoleon. Both these pick-ups were a great success! The next HHW collection will be held in Concordia, Mo in spring of 2009. If you have any questions on a list of things you can and cannot bring, contact Debbie Brackman at Pioneer Trails R.P.C. 660-463-7934.
